Lilian Meyers
My name is Lilian Meyers and I am an Electrical Apprentice at The Juilliard School. I recently graduated with my MFA in Theatrical Design from Michigan State University and have B.S. degrees in Theatrical Design and Theatre Education from Ball State University. I found lighting from a simple intro class and have never looked back since!

Artistic Statement
As a designer my most important philosophy is that there will always be new ways to learn and grow in the field. Each show is an opportunity to try something new, even if it's in a theatre I've worked in many times before. I am a strong advocate for exploration in creativity. I take a lot of inspiration from the great females who came before me. Tharon Musser was so intentional with her work. Each light and cue always had a purpose and was used in the show. These are values I instill in every production I work on. Everything I do has meaning and is to help tell the story.

Though I am a designer, I see myself as a collaborator first. My ideas are always growing and evolving around the others I work with. It could be a collaboration of color palettes for a character or a gel color that highlights the paint treatment just right. A designer is only great when they are part of a larger creation. I value mentorship and the ability to learn on the job. As a creative I take time to make sure my assistants get a clear understanding of my whole process. Why I do the things I do and how they help create my final product. As designers and fellow lovers of the craft, we should always be uplifting and encouraging those who will come after us.
Lastly but just as importantly, I am an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the field. I am conscious of the shows I choose to work on as a white woman and I make conscious gel options not just for costumes and scenery, but for the actors on the stage. I want my choices to make everyone on stage look their best.
